The Bartell Theatre Foundation, established in 1994, was created to support community theatre in Madison. Performance space was scarce and six community theatre companies banded together to purchase the building currently known as the Bartell Theatre. They built a Foundation with a co-operative structure, giving themselves the responsibility for direction, fundraising, and growth.
In July of 2010 we closed our 11th season at the Bartell with these resident companies: Encore Studio for the Performing Arts, Laboratory Theatre, Strollers Theatre, Mercury Players Theatre, Madison Theatre Guild, and StageQ.
In the intervening years, the Bartell Theatre Foundation has provided rental subsidies, shared-service and purchasing opportunities, and a voice for theatre that speaks to the Greater Madison community.
